MoYu Super RS3M 3×3 — MagLev Magnetic: an ultra-fast “Super RS” with magnetic levitation

MoYu Super RS3M 3×3 — MagLev Magnetic is the Super RS3M version with a MagLev system instead of springs and a full magnetic layout in the layers. The centre magnets replace traditional springs, reducing friction and eliminating spring noise, while edge-to-corner magnets provide reliable layer alignment. As a result, the cube turns extremely quickly with a light, “flying” feel, while remaining controlled enough for serious practice and competition use.

It is an excellent choice for cubers who have outgrown the regular RS3M or Super RS3M Standard and want a lighter, faster and more modern-feeling cube without the additional complexity of a ball-core mechanism.

Who this cube is for

Skill level:

  • intermediate-to-advanced and advanced speedcubers with confident finger tricks;
  • cubers who want to try MagLev without immediately moving to an expensive flagship;
  • competition-focused solvers looking for a fast training cube or even a competition main in the mid-price range.

Age:

  • teenagers and adults;
  • also suitable for motivated children if this is not their first speed cube.

Main use cases:

  • daily speed practice and work on high TPS;
  • use as a main cube at school, local and official competitions;
  • upgrading from older RS3M versions and standard Super RS3M models to a faster MagLev version.

Turning feel

  • the turning is extremely fast and light — magnetic levitation means the cube offers very little resistance;
  • the feel is smooth and “floaty”, with turns flowing softly into one another during algorithm spam;
  • the magnetic layer alignment is noticeable without being excessively strong — the cube feels both fast and predictable;
  • the sound is softer and smoother than on traditional spring-based models, with no spring noise;
  • during aggressive turning, there is less unwanted friction and fewer gritty sensations inside the mechanism.

Out of the box, the Super RS3M MagLev is usually set up fairly loose and already feels very fast. Cubers who value maximum speed may only need to add a light lubricant. For greater control, the centre settings can be tightened slightly and a thicker lubricant can be used.

MagLev and magnetic system

MagLev instead of springs:

  • the centres use two repelling magnetic rings instead of metal springs;
  • there is no spring-and-washer friction, making the turning faster, smoother and quieter;
  • spring noise is eliminated and the tensioning mechanism experiences less wear over time;
  • the centre height and tension remain adjustable, but the feel is closer to a “magnetic suspension”.

Layer magnets:

  • edge-to-corner magnets align the layers after every turn;
  • the magnet strength is around medium: the click is noticeable but does not slow the cube down on every move;
  • magnetic control helps reduce accidental overshooting and improves consistency during timed solves.

Adjustment:

  • a dual or stepped centre adjustment system, depending on the production batch, makes it easier to set equal tension on every side;
  • the cube can be configured to feel very loose and fast or slightly tighter and more stable, depending on your turning style;
  • it responds well to different lubricants, from light silicone oils to thicker control-focused formulas.

Stability and corner-cutting

  • modern forward corner-cutting handles large misalignments reliably with normal technique;
  • reverse corner-cutting is also strong and compensates for small alignment errors;
  • MagLev reduces minor lockups caused by friction in the centre mechanism;
  • anti-pop and corner-twist protection allows aggressive turning without frequent disassembly or failures.

Size, weight and materials

  • Size: approximately 56 × 56 × 56 mm — the classic format of the RS3M and Super RS3M series;
  • Weight: slightly heavier than the standard spring version, but still comfortable for long sessions;
  • Shell: stickerless, with a bright, high-contrast colour scheme that remains easy to recognise at speed;
  • Surface: semi-matte or semi-glossy, depending on the production batch, providing a balance between grip and smooth movement;
  • Internal plastic: light-coloured primary plastic with textured surfaces and grooves designed to reduce friction and retain lubricant.

Key advantages of the MoYu Super RS3M 3×3 — MagLev Magnetic

  • MagLev system instead of springs — faster, smoother and quieter turning without spring noise;
  • a modern magnetic system with stable layer alignment;
  • excellent balance between price and performance — noticeably closer to flagship cubes than the classic RS3M;
  • suitable for both intensive practice and competition use;
  • a simple and accessible upgrade for anyone who wants to try MagLev without paying for a top-end flagship.

Who it may not suit / considerations

  • beginners moving directly from a basic store-bought cube may find the MagLev speed too aggressive;
  • cubers who prefer a heavy, dampened feel may need to increase the tension noticeably and use a thick lubricant;
  • the cube benefits from some initial setup: at minimum, check the tension on every side and choose a suitable lubricant.

MoYu Super RS3M 3×3 — MagLev Magnetic is an excellent choice for speedcubers who need a fast, modern cube with magnetic levitation and stable control, capable of handling aggressive TPS and daily practice without entering the price range of top-tier flagship models.
